DigitalQuixote  > World Photos - North America > United States 2008 2009 > Washington DC
In the Spring of 2008, we traveled to Washington DC. I have worked in the city previously, but have never really had time to play tourist. So now was the time. We camped out at a hotel just off the Mall and did the sites. One site was the Department of Printing and Engraving (sorry no pictures allowed) where they "make" about $700 Million a day ... and truly sorry ... no samples at the end of the tour. We visited our Senator's office, sat in the gallery of the House and Senate which were in session, had lunch in the cafeteria of the Supreme Court. Did the monuments. In general, it was a hoot!

One of the highlights of our visit was a Seqway Tour of the city. What a ball! Here's the tour website:http://www.capitalsegway.com/tours. And see http://www.segway.com for for Segway's site. If you EVER have a chance to ride one of these ... TAKE IT!

Working in DC: Okay, a digression but it will be short. At work, guys (mostly) stand around he water cooler and Monday-Morning-Quarterback the big game. "How about that Red Zone Production?!?" Or, "Man, the defense sure shut down the offence!" Many years ago, the US Navy was my client. When you work for the Navy, during the Falkland’s war, you Monday-Morning-Quarterback a different competition. "How about the Exocet?!?" Or, "Man, those missiles sure shut down the offensive!"

These photos were taken in May 2008 mostly with a Nikon D3.

DigitalQuixote > George W's backyard. Absolutely NO weeds. My tax dollars at work! Unfortunately, I voted for this yayhoo, twice. He has made me ashamed of him. Time for a new tenant!
DigitalQuixote > Capitol: I think of this as a "Law Factory." That's what they make here, laws. Courtesy of our Senator, Patty Murry, we were able to visit both the House and the Senate - which were in session. Completely wierd - although in session the House was completely empty. The Senate had one Senator "testifying" before an empty chamber but in front of a TV camera. I saw the coverage later on TV - testimony about an FAA issue - you'd never know from TV the Senate was EMPTY. My tax dollars at work.
DigitalQuixote > Supreme Court: I think of this as the "Maintenance Division" of the Department of Justice. Law needs fixing, let's go to the Supreme court to get it fixed.

DigitalQuixote > Supreme Court: There is an unarguably cool spiral staircase that leads up to the gym. Yep, the Supremes have their own gym above the court! Sort of a court over the Court! My tax dollars at work!
DigitalQuixote > Supreme Court: This is the power room. Actually, for some arcane reason you can't take photos inside the courtroom. This is a photo of an anatomically correct model shot through glass. Sorry, best I could do.
DigitalQuixote > Jefferson Memorial: My favorite photo of the week in DC.
DigitalQuixote > Jefferson Memorial: My favorite photo of the week in DC. It tied with the photo above.
DigitalQuixote > Jefferson Memorial: I love the juxtaposition here, the girls and these sacred words on the wall. I wonder if they feel "created equal." Or if they care?
