We spent our first two nights outside Reykjavik in Budir, halfway out the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It was a perfect place to start our circumnavigation of the country. Beautiful hotel, fabulous restaurant, lovely weather.

I was intellectually prepared for the fact that much of Iceland was isolated but in fact, it was more more so than I could have imagined.

These photos were taken in August 2007 mostly with a Nikon D200.

They might hold 20-30 people, and were almost always built in the middle-of-nowhere because the middle of nowhere was equidistant from many small somewheres.

DigitalQuixote > Budir: The mountains to the north were punctuated by lots of tall waterfalls where a stream or small river would wander down the hillside and fall off the edge. Comfortably warm this time of year, the melting glaciers fed the streems and rivers. Over the next 3 weeks we would overdose on water falls but for now these were all unique and unusual in my experience.
