DigitalQuixote  > World Photos - Europe > Iceland 2007 > Saudarkrokur (10)
Today is the longest single day of driving on our trip. We are headed to the north-central Icelandic coast. This takes us up over a high land pass and back down to the ocean.

These photos were taken in August 2007 mostly with a Nikon D200.

DigitalQuixote > Parked by the side of the road is our trusty steed, an all-wheel-drive Suzuki Jimmy. Later in our trip, I would lose a bit over the Suzuki, but I digress. Nancy is long-suffering of my desire to take pictures. She sat in the car while I braved the cold to take the two pictures below of the high pass area we were crossing.
DigitalQuixote > Saudarkrokur: After being in the car much of the day, it's nice to get out and walk around the village.
DigitalQuixote > This is interesting, all my experience with high country includes the concept of forests. There are almost no trees in Iceland. More on this later. But it's pretty in a new and different way for me.

DigitalQuixote > Saudarkrokur: We found our hotel and found that it is the oldest hotel still operating in Iceland. The Hotel Tindastoll was built in Norway in 1820, disassembled, shipped here, and reassembled in 1884.
