DigitalQuixote  > World Photos - Europe > Italy 2004 2007 > Florence - Streets
One of the joys of visiting a place for an extended period is that you come to recognize its texture. There's a texture to things, to life, to a culture. These pictures illustrate the texture of Florence for me.

DigitalQuixote > Texture of Florence: This building's in "my neighborhood." Not an extraordinary building but indicative of the care builders and architects gave to to making them interesting.

DigitalQuixote > Texture of Florence: In Florence, there are no glass and steel skyscrapers, but the shape and feel of the buildings create their own texture.
DigitalQuixote > Texture of Florence: The center of Florence is more than half a millennium old. It was not built for cars and trucks but bicycles and motorcycles work very well for getting around.

This group of scooters seem to be looking at me with their "headlight eyes."
DigitalQuixote > Texture of Florence: The mirror on the Ducati is reflecting a lamp. I like the juxtaposition of the modern bike with the old city.

And no, the mirror is NOT Photoshopped in, thank you.
DigitalQuixote > Texture of Florence: Tourist trinkets for sale near the Ponte Vecchio. Art imitating life.
DigitalQuixote > Texture of Florence: Thi picture is one of my favorite Florentine photos. I could go one for many paragraphs about why I like it, but I won't. The short ride is about juxtaposition again. The poster, the wall, the band, the theatre, the rag, ... everything juxtaposes. It's like 5 things all being at right angles to each other in 5-dimensional space.
