DigitalQuixote > Kocatepe Mosque - Ankara Turkey Ankara was the first stop on our April Turkey trip in 2008. At one point we walked from the center of the city to our hotel, a distance of about 3 - 4 miles past a new modern mosque. The mosque, which shared the design of traditional mosques, was beautiful. Richly decorated, it demonstrates that Christianity has not cornered the market on ornate buildings built to the glory of God.

As the region's population has grown, the buildings have been extended in conventional ways leading to remarkably picturesque villages such as this one.

DigitalQuixote > Painted on the wall, under a covered walk way, near the main temple was an extensive fresco depicting scenes from Thai mythology. Unlike Italian frescos, these were partially gilded. Since they are routinely restored, they all appeared to be in mint condition. You might find these pictures worth zooming in on.
